However, even though Milo’s autistic traits are the focus of the story, the words “autism” and “autistic” did not appear in the initially published version of this book. Gideon’s primary arc is about learning to trust that Milo will assert his needs and boundaries and does not need others to decide for him what he’s capable of. Finding someone who accepts him for who he is, including his autistic traits, is his primary character arc in this book.
